Free Online Grading Resources for Teachers

Teaching in the current era is a “double-edged sword”. Class sizes are getting larger and demands on teachers are greater than ever before. On the positive side, though, there are a number of online grading resources for teachers that can help make life a little easier. Here is a sampling of some of the free grading resources for educators that the Internet has to offer:

SwiftGrades.com– You don’t have to go far for this first grading resource. The website that you’re currently on allows teachers to create free custom assignment rubrics with your commonly used student feedback pre-filled in the rubric. With SwiftGrades.com, a few button clicks can replace a lot of typing, which will make your assignment grading quicker and more efficient.

Kaizena.com– If you use Google Docs for assignments, this might be a helpful grading website for you. Kaizena is a Google Docs add on program that allows users to add voice and saved video comments to Google Docs, as well as streamlining assignment rubric completion.

MyAttendanceTracker.com– MyAT (the short name for this website) was created by the husband of a teacher to help his wife take attendance in a more efficient way. The website has since grown to include a free online gradebook. The online gradebook has features such as built in reports, integrated teacher/parent communication tools, and phone and tablet optimization.

GradeCalculator.com– If you’re not a math teacher, this website is for you. The “EasyGrader” feature on GradeCalculator.com allows you to simply enter the number of items your have on an exam or assignment and automatically generates a list of percentages based on the number of incorrect answers. The “Average Grade Calculator” feature is a quick way to set a “curve” for your class based on the grades of the individual students. The “Final Grade Calculator”  determines what grade a student would need on a final exam (weighted) to achieve a certain final grade.

Planboard– Available at Chalk.com/planboard, Planboard is primarily a lesson planning program, but it also includes an innovative gradebook feature. The lesson planning features of Planboard allow teachers to create and schedule lesson plans that include files, videos, and photos as well as lesson planning templates to make for quicker prep time. The gradebook on Planboard.com is adaptable to multiple forms of assessment- traditional grades, anecdotal information, skills acquisition, etc.

GradeCam.com– GradeCam offers an app which allows teachers to print paper versions of assignment and quizzes that are instantly graded by the app. The app can grade many types of questions, including short answer, multiple choice, true/false and others.  Only the “Mobile Lite” version of GradeCam.com is free, but the full mobile version is only $4.99 per year.

TeachersPayTeachers.com– This website is an online marketplace for teaching resources created by teachers. Just like the name suggests, many of the offerings on TeachersPayTeachers.com are available for a small fee, but the website does have some free grading resources. Among the free grading resources are a number of gradebook templates, videos about grading best practices, and Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets.

Teach-nology.com– This website has a number of rubric making tools to generate paper rubrics for a variety of classroom uses. Rubric makers are available to assess assignments, class participation, reading, even handwriting and more.

Flubaroo.com– Flubaroo is an add-on for Google Forms that allows the user to grade assignments in Google Forms automatically. Flubaroo also gives the teacher detailed feedback about the assignment grades (class average, how many students got each question correct, etc.). Students can be emailed directly from Flubaroo with their assignment grades and your optional feedback.
